About the position: Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for leading the accounting function for the health plan in this newly created role. S/he will oversee all accounting systems/processes, including payroll and financial modeling, and ensuring regulatory and tax requirements are met. The Controller will manage a team of approximately eight people and work closely with the Director of Finance. Experience within the health plan setting would be ideal but candidates from a medical group or MSO environment will also be considered. A current CPA license required. The Controller must have a clear understanding of revenue accounting and the ability to carefully track rate changes as well as claims payments. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, transparent and team focused. S/he must be confident, credible and very approachable. It is important that the Controller maintain a level of calm and flexibility in meeting the constantly changing needs of both a growing organization and the Medi-Cal landscape. Key responsibilities: • Provides status of financial condition by planning, organizing and directing a variety of general accounting functions • Monitors and confirms financial conditions by implementing and auditing company financial reports to conform to company policies and procedures • Recommends procedures and controls by analyzing operational procedures, controls and systems, and recommending improvements to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the financial division • Monitors regulatory compliance by insuring that general accounting adheres to and complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; meets the requirements of governmental regulations and guidelines; and complies with all company policies. • Provides accounting support by acting as a resource person for accounting personnel, other company employees, auditors, and outside agencies regarding various aspects of the company’s financial systems, policies and procedures and records of transactions; performing a variety of technical and/or specialized projects/assignments as required. Education: • BS degree in Accounting or Finance. MA/MS/MBA preferred. • Certified Public Accountant required. Experience/Skills: • Minimum five years of general accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably one to three years of management experience. Minimum two years health care experience, preferably with a health maintenance or managed care organization. • Full working knowledge of Microsoft suite of applications and general accounting software (SAGE 300). • Ability to apply advanced accounting principles and concepts • Current with authoritative accounting pronouncements in non-profit and regulatory setting.
